Surrealisme in the art of Bamboo

Embracing the art of surrealism came this work I made recently for the Bamboo Europe "be stylish" contest.
Often I stumble across surrealistic art, I made it my own by thinking out of the box. The way I look at my surroundings and my love for geometry.
It helps my mind to think straight by dissecting my surroundings in basic shapes. Flouting around in a world in this kind of vision makes the world more exiting, it doesn’t matter where you are.

A Japan moment

I had a japanese moment this week watching documentaries and movies like Memoirs of a geisha, I had an image in my mind that I wanted to work out. It is was was actually pretty fun and good practice for me painting in photoshop.

I had a little struggle with hands and faces, I almost forgot how to draw people because it has been actually a few years when I last drew a person.

I hope you all like the result.

Back to the roots

These last few weeks I tend to look back the way I design. When I was younger I had nothing more then pencil and paper. Instead of designing things in high end 3d software and the latest software, I went practicing drawing in photoshop and paper.

In the old days I drew a lot of landscapes, it was easy and it keeps my imagination going.
I still need to boost my anatomy skills and look back at the basics again to refresh the mind.

Practice makes perfect.

Old memories

I am very busy with my last project at GLR before I graduate. Today I realised how many things I made over the last 4 years. I came to the Graphic lyceum Rotterdam, not knowing how the Artistic world was like.

This video displays my first to my last work last year, it's not perfect but more will come.

I will discribe some of my favorite projects in later posts

 Hope you like it.

Toine Klaassen, Dreamworld

I took these pictures at the working envirement of an artist called "Toine Klaassen",
the envirement is feel very surreal. The artist said something about a dreamworld, can that be in his own vision or is it the opposite of the world of what we want to see?

This is a great excibit to see another form of art.
I also recommend to take a camera with you so that you can take some nice shots.

Google Art

http://www.googleartproject.com/
The day before yesterday Google launched a new platform called "Art Project".

It's a great way to explore museums that are not quite in the neighborhood, I had a lot of fun with it.

Eventually it still has its downside, because the routing is not really clear. I got lost in the MOMA in 5 minutes, so I kept using the floorplan navigator.

But the fun part is that I could finally explore the museums that I've never been to before and you can get a close-up on each painting you pick.

I hope that more museums are going to participate on this concept and I hope "Art project" grows out of it's beta shoes. The bugs are small but after a while it could be annoying.

Time will tell and try it out for yourself.

Design Achievement Awards 2011

I read and heard that Design Achievement Awards is already started again. It may be old news but not to late, you have until June 24 2011 to enter the contest.

If your still a student and you want to have an experience of a lifetime? Than you got to have to enter the contest, it will also broaden your horizon for the future.

http://www.adobeawards.com/us/

Some advice for students or talents that are going to enter the contests:

  • Find a someone that can mentor you trough the process, out of own experience is that you eventually can lose your vision over time.
  • Creating something is easy, but don't get lost in your ideas. Learn your boundaries or else you have to much work to make, you can better avoid strange problems.
  • Ok this is an advice that i suck in to and that is planning. I say it a lot to others but I also have to follow my own advice.
  • Stay inspired, surround yourself with the things that inspire you the most. It could be music,a movie, a bunch of magazines you love to look in.

And Good Luck
p.s. you can win money and a lovely vacation to taipei, isn't that great?
